Biography
Llywelyn Ifan Jones, winner of the 2020 Camac Harp Competition at the North London Festival, has been praised for his "commitment, warmth, and fluency" by BBC's Hinterland composer John Hardy. He was set to perform at the 2020 Wigmore Hall as an H.R. Taylor Trust Scholar at the Royal College of Music and looks forward to performing at the 2021 World Harp Congress.
In 2019, Llywelyn performed the harp cadenza for Dorset Opera's Lucia di Lammermoor and earned accolades in three international competitions: Llangollen International Eisteddfod, North International Music Competition, and New Stars Competition. He completed postgraduate studies at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg under Stephen Fitzpatrick and won 1st prize in the Savarez-Corelli Kammermusik Competition. He now studies at the Royal College of Music with Stephen Fitzpatrick, Ieuan Jones, and Jana Boušková on the Artist Diploma programme.
Llywelyn previously studied with Caryl Thomas at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, receiving several awards, including the Mansel Thomas Award. He also won the Lyon and Healy Award and first prize at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and Pencerdd Gwalia Competition.
Llywelyn has performed with ensembles such as the British Sinfonietta, British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Southern Sinfonia, and the Russell Watson Orchestra. He has also performed Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia during Mozart Week in Salzburg.
